Hi all,

I was looking at my copies of "Tolkien's World" and "Realms of Tolkien" which I picked up in 1993 and 1996 respectively. (And there have since been books created by both Alan Lee and John Howe of their artwork for Tolkien's novels).

I love these books of paintings based on Middle Earth (with the variety of artists and artistic styles), but I have always loved Narnia and the art inspired by it. I have never seen a book of collected art work for the Narnian Chronicles.
Does anyone know if there is any similar book of Narnian artwork?

If there is not, does anyone have a wish-list of Artists who'd they would like to see art pieces by?

For myself I'd like to see works by:
Pauline Baynes (obviously),
Dawn Doughty Davidson,
Matthew S Armstrong,
Michael Hague,
Christian Birmingham,
Deborah Maze,
Andrew Knaupp

Last year I discovered that my son would like to read the Chronicles of Narnia with me, but he also wanted a picture on every page. To that end, I purchased digital editions of the books with the color illustrations by Pauline Baynes and searched the internet for professional and fan art in order to build word documents with the text and at least one picture per page. About 2/3s of the books' contents have existing illustrations, however a good third of the books are not illustrated.
Since there's not enough hours in the day, I turned to AI (Google Imagen, Deep Dream Generator, Dall-E 3) to generate the images.
I found it fascinating to see which parts of the books are less illustrated (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe usually has 2-3 images available for every page of the books, while there are significant sections of The Last Battle and The Silver Chair where its difficult to find illustrations for entire chapters.)
Hopefully someone out there will be inspired to create some real art based on this :)

Talking Beasts did a cover bracket awhile back, featuring many designs from the various sets that have been done over the years, and one thing I noticed was that several of the books had variations on a single theme going. I said to myself, "What if I specifically set out to do something else?" {ym}

...I didn't. {ym}

I've also pondered the possibility of a very minimalist design--those were popular a few years ago as well.

Anyway, those two thoughts finally turned into something.

The specifically medieval take isn't all that new, but it does have some fun possibilities for marginalia if I ever refine the idea.

(Another idea I like, though it hasn't turned into a sketch or anything, is when you have a design across the spines of an entire set... I don't think Narnia has one like that, and it would be very cool if it did.)

Lately I was messing about with Bing Image Creator, a web-based art AI that turns prompts into pictures. I decided to create a few portraits, scenes and what-not based on Narnia, with results of varying degrees of quality. (Some of them actually turned out quite nice!)

Anyway, here is the first shot, of Lucy discovering the lamppost. My prompt was "1940's schoolgirl looking up at Victorian lamppost, snowy forest, night." With the exception of her rather elongated face, I think it turned out reasonably well.
