Hello, and welcome to Apartment 51!

Apartment 51 is the renovated quarters above the Cup & Platter, and it is meant as a secret gathering space for those of a literary bent. It is, quite literally, a "speak-easy", but of the more bookish sort. I've heard there's a secret room or two hidden in here, with an assortment of--ahem--banned books, if you are in the mood to explore. It is also the permanent home of Ditto Town's Writer’s Circle and Flash Fiction Challenges. Writers can post their work, and, from time to time, the hosts (usually myself or Ms. Death) will post Flash Fiction Challenges. Once stories have been submitted, writers can provide each other with feedback, of the friendly sort.

As you explore, please note the following rules:

General Rules:

This thread is specifically for authors to post finished pieces and receive feedback. It is not for roleplays.

For the same reasons, please refrain from discussing tangent topics or plotting in this thread.

Writer Rules:

Keep all posts rated “G” or “PG” for the sake of our younger members.

Only post complete drafts. Do not post works that are "to be continued".

Works must be between 10 and 8,000 words in length. If your work is over 2,000 words, please break it into chunks and post them sequentially. You are allowed to double post when posting sections of a single story.

You may post works of fiction, dramas, poetry, screenplays, or non-fiction stories. Editorials, essays, and academic pieces are not appropriate for this thread, and will be removed.

Fan fiction is not allowed. All characters must be characters you have invented yourself, not taken from other authors. You can use your characters from other Ditto Town stories, your own independent works, or ones made up just for this thread.

Include a title for each of your posts. This can be as simple as "Story #4" -- the purpose of the title is to clarify feedback.

Feedback Rules:

Always include the title of the story you are commenting on.

Remember to THINK—are your comments true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, and kind?

Make your posts substantial. For example, if you want to say “Good job!” or “I really liked your story!” add some details (“I really liked your story because it highlighted the strong friendship between Cheddar the Chipmunk and his Talking Thimble without being overbearing and cheesy”). If you have a critique for someone, explain why ("I found the middle part of your story hard to read, as I wasn't sure who was talking. Maybe adding some more tags would help?")

Please keep in mind that all writers are at a different place in their writing journey. Thus, we ask that you focus on giving feedback on the storyline, pacing, and structure, rather than editing pointers.

Happy writing! If you need me, I'll likely be polishing a glass, so just holler.

Welcome, traveler! There’s not much going on in this old ghost town right now, but that doesn’t mean adventures aren’t lurking, waiting for someone to brave enough to take them on!

It used to be that Ditto Town was the busiest place—The Mansion always had a party, the Town Square was hopping, and Apartment 51 had some strange shenanigans taking place. Now, there’s not much of anyone about except the other hosts and me—I’m Delia Death, professional ghost wrangler. Ironic, isn’t it?

I live here, in the Mansion. There’s plenty of rooms here, so you’re welcome to pick your favorite and stay as long as you like. There’s a lovely garden and conservatory with plants from many universes (including a pomegranate tree or two), a labyrinth that may have some unusual critters hanging out in it, an archery range, some stables, and the basement. The first layer of the basement is used for storage, but I’d be careful—there’s more that lurks beneath that. If you’re really curious, I can tell you about the Mansion’s history, but that’s fitting for another day.

This is the place where you and other folks create your own story--a sort of slow paced RPG, if you will. Where those stories take you is entirely up to you, the writers. I might pop in to aid the story along, if needed, or will show up if you coming looking for me, but this Mansion has no pre-designed plot.

There are a few guidelines to keep in mind:
1) If you choose to come as a character (other than yourself), please do keep your characters original. Thus, showing up as Lucy Pevensie or Bilbo Baggins would be a no-no.
2) Do not fold, staple, mutilate, kill, or otherwise destroy, another writer's character(s).*
3) Keep in mind that all general forum rules still apply.
4) Keep all posts rated “G” or “PG” for the sake of our younger members.

*If you would like to include another character’s actions in your post, discuss it with them beforehand. Sometimes it is best to spread something out of several smaller posts, where characters can go back and forth, rather than lumping everything into one big post!

If the Mansion grounds don’t suit you, the Cup and Platter is right down the street, and worth checking out, if you are looking for conversation. Apartment 51 is usually open, too, and that’s a great place to share your favorite yarns and tall tales.

If you are new to Ditto Town, or are interested in learning a bit more about what goes on here, this is a perfect place to jump in, as no prior knowledge about the subforum is needed to participate. If, however, you have any questions, feel free to PM myself or one of the Ditto Town mods, and we would be happy to provide you with an answer. And if we don't know the answer, we'll either make something up, or refer you on to someone who does know. We're pretty good about knowing, though!

Come on in and join the fun!

Every year, Ditto Town hosts a Holiday Party, which usually starts during Hanukkah (but is very late this year, so we are starting early) and runs through the Feast of Epiphany. Everyone is welcome to join in! You can come as yourself, your favorite (original) character, even your favorite hat! Unlike most other Mansions, the Holiday Mansions are generally not heavily planned out, so there is quite a lot of room to enjoy eggnog or cider, kick back, relax, and catch up with some old friends. Hopefully you make a few new friends, too!

This year's camp will is joint hosted by the Ditto Town Astronomers' Club and the Ditto Town Historical Society and will allow young and old to learn about the galaxy around us. Since then, many travelers have immigrated to our planet via interdimensional and interstellar means, and even some through the occasional portal. Sign up for The Sojourner tour and test flight today, before the seats are filled!

The Blossom Festival is held in the Square in front of the Mansion. While the Mansion is open, there are a variety of booths, games, mud pits, contests, and other funnities in the Square.

Everyone is welcome to join in! You can come as yourself, your favorite (original) character, even your favorite hat! The Blossom Festival, like the Holiday Mansions, are generally not heavily planned out (with a exception explained below), so there is quite a lot of room to enjoy some tea or coffee, kick back, relax, and catch up with some old friends—or, if we prefer a more active lifestyle, open your own booth! As long as your booth contents do not violate the rules, they can be as outrageous and wacky as you like.

There are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

1) If you choose to come as a character (other than yourself), please do keep your characters original. Thus, showing up as Lucy Pevensie or Bilbo Baggins would be a no-no.

2) Do not fold, staple, mutilate, kill, or otherwise destroy, another writer's character(s).

3) Keep in mind that all general forum rules still apply.

4) Keep all posts rated “G” or “PG” for the sake of our younger members.

New Event Challenge:

The Blossom Festival will feature a new event: a Mini Bingo Challenge! When your guest first arrives, they will want to pick up a bingo card. You, as the writer, will receive your own Bingo card separately. Every time a character written by someone else fulfills an item on your bingo card, you may complete a square. Please keep track of when each square is filled! The first person to shout BINGO and provide their completed card to myself or a moderator will win.

Please do not peek at other people's cards!

Every year, Ditto Town hosts a Holiday Party, which usually starts during Hanukkah and runs through the Feast of Epiphany. Everyone is welcome to join in! You can come as yourself, your favorite (original) character, even your favorite hat! Unlike most other Mansions, the Holiday Mansions are generally not heavily planned out (with a new exception explained below), so there is quite a lot of room to enjoy eggnog or cider, kick back, relax, and catch up with some old friends. Hopefully you make a few new friends, too! While there are two Mansions open, the two are not occurring that the same time, so characters may be in attendance of both Mansions.

This Holiday Party will feature a new event: a White Elephant gift exchange! When your guest first arrives, they should place a wrapped gift on the table for a White Elephant Exchange. At the bottom of your post, please use a spoiler box to describe the item inside your gift. As long as the item is G or PG, it may be good, bad, chaotic, or eh (tea towels, anyone?). To create a spoiler box, simply put before your description and after your description. Remove the asterisks to make the box work properly. For example, this is a spoiler box, and I am inside it. Please do not peek at other people's spoilers! Partway through the party, we will announce how each attendee may select and open their gift.

Hello and welcome! You may notice that NarniaWeb is much stricter than many other message boards. Our members tell us they like the unique culture that our rules help us maintain. Everyone has a right to his or her opinion, but not every comment and behavior belongs on NarniaWeb. To help you and everyone else enjoy the forum, please read and follow these rules:

Forum Etiquette

1.) Speak respectfully of other NarniaWebbers, public figures, and corporations. You should be fair in your statements about people and companies. Always assume that the person you are discussing can read every word you type — because, of course, he or she can and many people involved with the Narnia productions do. Do not flame other members, and do avoid hateful and inflammatory language. Extreme statements like these are not welcome here:

• Netflix/Disney/Fox/Walden is greedy, evil, and/or always makes lousy movies.
• The cast is ugly.
• The sky is falling because someone in the movie production said something I don't like.
• The sky is falling because anyone is daring to make a movie at all.
• Your ideas are stupid/immature.
• My ideas are better than yours.

2.) Do not post statements or images that express romantic attraction toward any character or cast member. That type of "extreme fandom" is disrespectful to the person being discussed, and spoils the forum for many members. Actors are real people with real feelings, and NarniaWeb strives to maintain a culture that treats them as people, not just as objects of romantic interest. Examples of inappropriate statements include:

• Kiss me, Susan.
• I want to marry Will.
• Ben is so hot.

3.) Do not double-post. If you would like to add something to the post you just made, click on the “Edit” button in the lower right corner of your post. Exceptions may be made if over 24 hours have passed since your previous post.

4.) Do not swear or curse. If you swear, your post will be edited or deleted, and you will receive a warning from the moderators. This includes abbreviations or symbol representations.

5.) Post with substance. This means that your posts should contain your own ideas and challenge other people to think. Please do not post messages that just say "I agree" or "You said exactly what I would say." These clutter up a thread and can make other people in the discussion feel outnumbered and intimidated.

6.) Use good spelling and grammar. Please type your posts in full sentences and avoid netspeak or chat-style writing (such as “l3375l°34l<” or “Hi how r u? I r gr8”). Do not use excessive ALL CAPS in your post.

7.) When quoting other members, only quote the relevant sentence or two of their post. Do not include the whole post over again as this makes for long page loads.

8.) Do not start topics or post messages solely to advertise other websites. (If you like, you may place a link to your site in your signature.) It is permissible to start a new topic about a bona fide Narnia-related news story and link to the source of the story in your opening post. Keep in mind that all links are subject to review and possible removal if they are deemed inappropriate under NarniaWeb's family-friendly rules.

9.) Do not post pirated/illegal materials here. Because of our responsibility as a well-known Narnia movie news site, NarniaWeb does not support pirated materials of any kind. If you post illegally obtained information on the forum, it will be removed. Please PM a moderator before posting if you are unsure whether or not something is legal, and let an administrator here know if you do find something illegal online.

10.) Do not send spam messages through the Private Messaging system. Users found doing this will be given one warning; repeat offenders will be banned from NarniaWeb. Contrary to popular belief, the forum rules also apply to the Private Messaging system. If you receive a PM that violates forum rules, contact a moderator or administrator, and be prepared to forward the offending message.

11.) Having a duplicate account on NarniaWeb is strongly discouraged. While some exceptions are made occasionally, if you are found to be using a duplicate account to break the forum rules, that account will be immediately deactivated. If you are having trouble accessing your account, please use the Contact Us button.

Discussion Topics

12.) When starting a new topic, be sure to check that it is not already an existing discussion and that it is in the correct forum. If the moderators find duplicate topics, they will usually close one or combine the two.

13.) Stay on topic. Moderators will close threads that rabbit-trail off to other subjects.

14.) Please confine extended theological discussions to The Man Behind the Wardrobe section (or the appropriate thread in the Spare Oom) so that these topics can be avoided by those who are not interested or who would take offense.

15.) Do not use already-published characters in the RPGs (role-playing games), as we do not have permission to use those characters in such a manner. Role-play with original characters is allowed in Ditto Town.

16.) Certain extremely controversial topics are unconditionally banned from NarniaWeb, as they have caused some nasty arguments in the past. If a moderator tells you that a topic you have brought up is banned for this reason, please do not argue. Such decisions are never made lightly and are not open to debate. Topics that are currently off-limits are:

• Politics
• Sexual content of any kind

You can help the moderators. If you see an inappropriate post, click on the "Report !" icon in the upper right-hand corner of the post, fill out the necessary information, and click "Submit." This will alert the moderators and they will take whatever action is necessary.

Image Guidelines

17.) Do not post photographs of people (or yourself) in revealing clothing, including bathing suits. Images or words that are lewd, sexual, or inappropriate may be removed or edited by the moderators. In extreme cases, users who post such things may be blocked from the forum altogether.

18.) Avatar image uploads must be smaller than 1MB in size. Avatars may not be animated.

19.) The maximum size of a signature image is 300 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. If the image is larger than this, it will be automatically re-sized. A signature may not contain more than one image. Unlike avatars, animated signature images are allowed, but please be mindful of other forum users (e.g. nothing extremely flashy).

New Members

Due to a small minority of members who are more interested in being a nuisance than in participating in real discussions, messages from new members require moderator approval. We apologize for the inconvenience. Don't feel bad if a message is rejected; most of the time this really isn't a big deal, and you'll receive an explanation.

Summary

The moderators have the right to do what they think is best for the forum. Their job is to keep the spirit of the rules, not just the letter. Even if you think you’ve found a loophole, be aware that the moderators still have the right to stop you if you’re causing a problem. You may think they’re being "unfair," but they’re just doing their job.

If you have any problems or concerns, please feel free to contact anyone on our helpful and friendly team and we will try to resolve the issue as soon as possible. To see who is moderating what area, go to the Board Index and look at the blue names listed under each section.

Thank you for taking the time to read through our rules, and enjoy the forum!
